Today I’m thankful for a fun dinner party.
After work tonight I met up with Becky at her boss’ place for a dinner party he was throwing for his summer students, team members, and a few friends. While I knew some of the folks there were many people that I either hadn’t met before or that I had met in passing. I’m not usually a big fan of these types of situations, depending on the environment that you typically have seen me in this may be a bit of a surprise. That being said, I had a blast tonight!
The crowd was a lot of fun and it was great getting to know many of the people there. Between the students, co-workers, spouses and friends there were so many different personalities to get to know. It was a lot of fun hearing many of their thoughts, stories, and, research. From the conversations I heard about some pretty awesome Boy Scout adventures that another troop does that could be fun for our boys. I shot the bull with someone who had a very interesting and enlightening story about Barry Bonds. Another conversation got into the unusual breeding habits of rabbits. A landlord was sharing stories of interesting renters and parties being broken up. By the end of the night I had learned which person to go to if any fact checking was necessary as his knowledge in many topics was pretty impressive! I learned more about studying conductivity in water samples than I’ve ever learned in my life. Throw in conversations about furniture making, internships, cooking, goats, the British occupation of the Rock of Gibraltar, and chicken ordinances on French Island, and it makes me smile thinking of all of the topics that we covered! While at other times in my life I’ve kind of disappeared into the background at an event like this I had a lot of fun actively listening to many stories and soaking them all in.
The food was absolutely fantastic (two types of paella with different rices, seafood, shrimp, chicken, pork and sausage), the sangria was great, and the company and conversation was wonderful. This was a long week between work and the boys going back to school, tonight’s dinner party was an excellent kick off to the weekend! Thanks again Bill!
