Today I am thankful for the sheer bliss of getting a crazy guess correct.
Remember this scene…
Charlie: There’s a lot more than 82 toothpicks, Ray.
Raymond: 246 total.
Charlie: How many?
Sally Dibbs: 250.
Charlie: Pretty close.
Sally Dibbs: There’s four left in the box.
Great scene from an excellent movie, right?
I am no Rainman, but today I had a pretty awesome experience. Dominic and I were at Menards picking up some parts for a neat project he found in Boys Life – a 6′ tall sprinkler for him and other kids to run through during the summer. As we were picking out the parts I had him keeping a very loose and rough running total of the cost. The ballpark was approximately $25 dollars. I did a little loose accounting and told Dominic that I was guessing that the total bill was going to be $28.67.
Guess what the total was as announced by our cashier…
How awesome is that? I know, it was totally random and completely insignificant, but totally rad! I was ecstatic! Dominic thought I had somehow played a trick on him. The cashier was pretty much at a loss for words, probably because she thought I was nuts. Regardless, it felt great! Getting that crazy guess right still has me smiling.
