Day 133 – Thankful for Simple, Yet Deep, Father Son Conversations

08 Feb

Today I am thankful for simple, yet deep, father son conversations.

Today we stopped at the grocery store after church and I was going to run in to grab a couple of things quick.  A couple steps into the store and I realize I have a shadow, Dominic.  As we were walking through the aisles we had one of those crazy deep conversations.

It was pretty wild.  He was openly sharing some of his concerns and fears.  Instead of putting up his defenses he was asking for advice and actually listening to what I told him. It was awesome, one of those moments when you realize that you are really a dad, a father figure.

After a short while it went back to a normal conversation and that previous moment was gone.  Regardless of how fleeting it was, it was a moment that I really appreciate.  While I don’t know what he will do with what I shared, but I know he listened.  We had a moment that was one of those perfect father son moments that they usually poorly portray in movies.

It was such a simple conversation on a deep topic between a father and son that made me thankful for being a dad and for having an awesome son.

Thanks!!!
