Today I’m thankful for people who are highly driven to make their dreams a reality.
Yesterday I received an email from a great team member stating her interest in growing within our team. While she may not currently be ready for the challenge she wants to tackle I’d be amazed if she didn’t reach that goal within a few years. Why? She’s got the drive of a freaking champion.
She pushes herself out of her comfort zone on a regular basis. She’s constantly striving to become better. She doesn’t wilt under the pressure of challenge. She asks for criticism, handles it with grace and adapts. She’s got a passion for her career. She’s driven by an internal motor that refuses to quit.
So why I am I so thankful for driven people like this? Simple. They make the rest of decide to push harder along with them or get out of their way. They push us to make the decision between being mediocre and being great. People who are highly driven need highly driven coaches and highly driven teammates. When they’re on your team you quickly see a split between the drivers and the “good enoughers.” They force us as coaches to decide what type of team we want. They drive us to make the tough decisions we’d sometimes like to ignore. They drive us to become better.
I’m thankful for this particular team member and her drive because she’s pushing me to be the best possible coach I can be.
